Why Montessori Education?

Montessori is a method that has been proven, and has been working for over 100 years. Unlike the traditional methodology in education that has to be updated regularly, Montessori has remained constant since it’s inception. Most of all, the result of Montessori methodology can be traced back to its graduates, their achievements, and their contribution to society. The methodology in Montessori education simply put: works! Here are some of the reasons why the Montessori results have proven to be so positive in students.

Primary Curriculum

An example of a Montessori curriculum area tailored to each student’s learning style is the Language Arts portion of the curriculum. This area of the Montessori curriculum is composed of an active writing and reading program that is based on phonetics. The child starts with oral language development, and it progresses to associating letter sounds with the written symbols. Because the cognitive process required for reading is more complex than the one required for writing, the children follow the natural path of learning to write before they read. Through the Montessori language materials, activities and the implementation of a sequential phonetic reading program, the child is guided to fluent reading. Finally, they experience the function of grammar and the art of creative writing.

Lower Elementary Curriculum

Covering ages 6 to 9 years old, the Montessori curriculum in this stage maximizes the exploration, creativity, and independent learning innate in each child. The environment of the lower elementary stage of learning is full of opportunity to connect with nature, their inner world, and also their outer world.

Upper Elementary Curriculum

The Montessori curriculum for upper elementary concentrates in ages 9 through 12 years old. This part of the curriculum ignites the ability of a child by modeling a natural curiosity for the world. The main focus is always learning through experimenting with the “why” behind the “what” they learn.

Integrated Arts Program

Our commitment at Miami Arts Montessori is to expose students from an early age to the ARTS. Through a balanced education on the different art forms, students can explore their aptitudes and abilities as well as see art as a lifelong journey.
